Imagine an AI tells you, “The first computer was invented in 2005.” It sounds certain—but computers existed many decades before that. AI creates answers by predicting useful patterns in language. It does not have a truth light that switches on for every correct fact.
Become an AI Detective with three checks. First, pause and identify the exact claim. Second, check the source: who made it, and is that person or organisation responsible for this information? Third, compare the claim with another trustworthy source.
Use AI to explore and create—but before a factual answer guides your homework, a decision or something you share, pause, check and compare.

AI predicts an answer
A generative AI learns patterns from large amounts of information. When you ask a question, it builds a likely response. That makes it excellent for explaining ideas, brainstorming and drafting—but it may also invent a detail, mix up two facts or use old information.

You decide what to trust
Look for checkable claims: names, numbers, dates, quotations and statements about the real world. The more important the decision, the stronger your evidence should be. Asking the AI again is not an independent fact-check.

Pause: the claim is about Monday's school schedule. Check: the AI is not responsible for that schedule. Compare: look at the official school notice or ask the school—not another AI chatbot.
